This brittle star does not have the forest of spines seen on other brittle stars, which presumably helps it burrow into the sand. Unlike larger starfish it does not glide along on tube feet but lurches along the seabed using its arms to propel itself.

The long smooth tapering arms of this brittle star help it to move through the sand.
