Grey Topshell

This beautifully patterned sea snail is another herbivore that grazes on seaweed. Like other sea snails it has a hard protective door to seal the shell's entrance (called an 'operculum') and extends 2 feelers from its head as it crawls along.

This is the commonest topshell on our shores; there are others including painted topshells with their distinctive conical shape.
