Butterfish

Although many fish will visit the shore when the tide is in, most will retreat with the outgoing tide to avoid falling prey to predators, or drying out. The butterfish is an exception - it can often be found lurking under rocks or seaweed where it keeps cool and moist before the tide returns. The butterfish is eel-shaped, and is easily recognised by the distinctive dots along its back.
