Red Bartsia (Photo: Laurie Campbell)
It is often easy to miss red bartsia as it looks slightly dusty. This is because it is covered in fine hairs. The flowers have two lips and are in pairs on the stem.
This is one of those plants that takes food and water from other plants nearby. The roots fasten on to the roots of the surrounding grasses, and if you look you will see that the grass that grows next to red bartsia does not grow as tall as other grasses.
