Ragwort might look lovely, with its bright yellow flowers, but it is a problem plant for crofters. It contains poisons that can be fatal to cattle and horses, and it must be removed from land where animals are kept. Fortunately, it does not seem to affect sheep.

The flowers appear in clusters – with very bright yellow petals, and a beautiful domed centre.

When the flowers are fully opened, the leaves of the ragwort have started to wither and die.
