Common Meadow Grass

Common meadow grass gives the machair a silvery sheen in summer. The grasses are the most important plants on the machair. They provide nutrients for all the other plants species, and grazing for birds and animals. When the temperature in spring reaches 8 degrees, the grass starts to grow and then the machair comes to life with all the other flowers.
